For NFL players, before they can get to a Super Bowl, they have to endure the long road of the regular season; then, if they’re lucky, they’re onto the playoffs, and then, if they’re great, into the Divisional Championship game. For all but 2 teams the road will end here, and for the winners, a chance of a lifetime to play in a Super Bowl. We were very excited to get the opportunity to film the feature segment to open year’s NFC Championship game between the New Orleans Saints and the Los Angeles Rams, “A Road Without Limits” narrated by Forest Whitaker. It was a wide ranging, ambitious shoot that included recreations of past NFC game moments that have since become legend. One of the scenes included 30 actors dressed as San Francisco 49ers fans in full period accurate costumes reacting to the 1982 game where Joe Montana found Dwight Clark for the game winning touchdown that has since become known as “The Catch”. This was accomplished by building a few rows of stands in front of a large green screen and filling them with fans. This image was them composited to make it look like the rows continue behind them with a stadium full of fans. In another scene, we recreated a New York City apartment in a LA soundstage with a cleverly built set and a massive translight to make it look like midtown Manhattan at night. We were lucky to be working with such a great team all around, because even though it was challenging, it was a really fun and rewarding project to be a part of.
