We recently got the opportunity to shoot this ambitious commercial piece promoting the epic match between renowned futbol clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona, a match known as “El Clasico”. The piece tells the the story of rivalry as two children, one born in Madrid, the other in Barcelona. They grow through the years as fans of opposing teams and eventually meet as players on the field. The piece was shot entirely in the Los Angeles area over a 3 day period. The challenge was to capture the feeling of both Barcelona and Madrid in Southern California. Locations were carefully chosen and you will notice the camera is moving in almost every shot. A keen observer might even notice that the stadium shots were actually filmed in the Rose Bowl as the production took over the famous venue for a day of shooting. Director of Photography Jonathan Belinski chose to go with a minimal, naturalistic lighting design and to concentrate more on the movement of the camera within the specific environments. The entire piece was shot using Red Dragon Cameras and Leica Summicron-C prime lenses. There were so many moving shots, the Dragon on the gimbal, which is usually the B-Cam, was actually the A-Cam on this shoot. Produced by DLP Media.
